24th June Hebden Bridge Town Hall 2pm-5pm Free Extracts of the ENABLING THEATRE film currently in production will be shown on Monday 24th June at 2pm in the Waterfront Room @ Hebden Bridge Town Hall.
In the film you will see Brazilian theatre activist, Nobel Prize nominee Augusto Boal training 26 people with a range of physical/psychological impairments here in Hebden Bridge, challenging ways society disables us. Boal wrote about the experience in the Forward to his last book The Aesthetics of the Oppressed. The Courage to be Happy our half hour programme on BBC Radio 4 can be listened to on YouTube.
You will be invited to comment on /re-enact scenes from the film; bringing Forum Theatre to the cinema! Be an active participant over tea and cake!
We’ll take you to Africa to meet disabled Senegalese in Dakar, where the Arts Council sponsored Artistic Director Susan Quick went to share Enabling Theatre. Before the car accident which disabled her in 1995, Susan had lived and worked in Africa for 10 years. It was wonderful to be welcomed home! You’ll see the challenges disabled Africans face.
